Shop Your Closet: Printed Dress

September 29, 2010 § Leave a comment

For this week’s ‘Shop Your Closet,’ I decided to go with an item every girl has or should have in her wardrobe. Why? Well, a) because it’s girly, and b) because it was also one of last season’s hottest trends. Can you guess what this week’s IT item is?

the printed dress

So you own one of those pretty abstract dresses that were super cute over the summer for almost any occasion. You know, the ones that you could simply throw over a bathing suit and call it a day or jazz up with some fancy jewels for a night on the town.

Now what?

Don’t just let them sit in your closet along with your other neglected items of past seasons. Here, i’ll show you how to reinvent a painterly abstract dress to make it work for the fall and winter seasons.

Just because it’s a dress doesn’t mean it has to be worn as one. For this look boho chic look throw on a slouchy graphic t-shirt of your choice (I thought the Hollywood theme of this one was perfect), throw on a bunch of bangles for a bit of personality and color, and go for a bootie (with or without a heel) as  opposed to a flat or heel–that’s just too expected!

If you’re more on the edgy side, you’ll want to stick to the biker chic accessories. Pair you dress with some laced up black booties (preferably with a heel for a more nighttime feel), and a studded clutch bag. To top it off grab your favorite jacket–in this case I picked an embellished boyfriend blazer.

Now, if you’re more of a girly-girl, this is the look for you. This time, I’ve paired the dress with a cute tied cardigan (another item most of us have)–and I think i should also mention it doesn’t have to match so perfectly–some cute chandelier earrings, and a pair of fabulous wedges!

Do you have any ideas of your own to revamp an abstract dress? Leave them in the comments below!

xoxo, S.O.
