Fall 2010 Look Book: Part II

With the new season comes new trends, and for those that aren’t new, new takes on how to style them. As we discussed in my previous post, it’s time to leave Spring behind us, and welcome the coming cooler weather. Read on to get the scoop on the latest trends and how to incorporate them into your wardrobe!
First on our fashionable agenda: lace. This is one of those things that’s timeless–it never goes out of style! But this season, especially, it is having a major fashion moment. Try this sexy detail on shoes, bags, jewelry, tops, dresses… I mean really, the possibilities are endless! And, while we’re on the topic of sexy and feminine, here’s another trend that is not going anywhere, in fact it just keeps getting better and better. It’s all about the waist! Look for dresses, tops, and skirts with feminine shapes to show off your curves. A belted dress with details plays up your figure.
A dress or skirt with a peplum is a great piece to have if you’re lacking a bit in the curve department. However, if you have a very curvy figure, you’ll want to stick with a very structured piece with clever details that will make you look thinner (see the stripes?) but still make your waist look fab!
To complete your look, grab your ladylike pumps and accessories (yet another trend this season!). Pretty details like bows, rosettes, and tassels add charm to any outfit.
Besides camel and gray, deep jewel-tone shades are huge this season. Bags, shoes, and clothes look super elegant in rich, saturated shades–particularly burgundy, purple, blue, and forest green. This also goes for make-up. Instead of going for your usual nude lip, opt for a deep berry lip or purple smokey eye.
While shopping for bags this season, look for structured top-handle styles. This season calls for textures with luxurious-looking closures and other polished details.
Lastly, I want to talk about two of my favorite trends: chunky knits, and lace-up booties. No surprise there, since most of us look forward to wrapping ourselves in chunky sweaters and dusting off our boots at the first signs of cool weather.
Lace-up boots are a great item to have because they easily dress an outfit up or down. To purchase the perfect pair, choose the color that best matches your wardrobe and will give you the most outfits. Also, make sure you choose a pair that’s comfortable enough to walk in for daytime too.
As for the chunky knits, look for items that are reasonable and that you will get enough use out of depending on where you live. Look for oversized sweaters, thick knitted scarves, and knitted beanies.
Until next time fashionistas! Happy shopping!
